FINALLY BACK: NEWS FROM SOUTH AMERICA.

AFTER A BREAK OF SEVERAL MONTHS, HERE IS THE ANTICIPATED UPDATE FINALLY: ANDREA AND MIKE SET OFF FROM THE TIERRA DEL FUEGO TO THE WILD LANDSCAPES OF ARGENTINA AND CHILE AND HAVE NOT ONLY COVERED LARGE DISTANCES, BUT HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED A LOT.

Dear RoadStars, last time we reported from the far south of Patagonia. If you don't know us yet, don't worry! We’ll take you along on our road trip from now on. So buckle up, a lot has happened.

Our adventure continues in the beautiful Torres del Paine National Park, where the stormy wind whirls up stones from the gravel road and pelts them into the windscreen. From here, we cross the border into Argentina to marvel at the Perito Moreno Glacier in the morning sunshine and listen to the magical creaking and crackling of the glacier. The endless gravel tracks and the legendary Ruta 40 continue – with one or two detours into the breathtaking mountains, where we hike through untouched nature or admire ancient cave paintings.

Our highlight in southern Chile is Valle Exploradores. After a week between roaring waterfalls and dense greenery, we happen to meet Mario in the small town of Coyhaique – a RoadStar from Chile who has been reading our reports for several years! He is overjoyed and invites us to park by his home. We spend two days with him, and since he owns several trucks, we can wash and lubricate the Axor thoroughly after so many kilometres on gravel.

To escape the wet, cold winter in Chile, we headed back to drier Argentina shortly thereafter. We soon find ourselves in knee-deep snow again in the province of Neuquen. So back to Chile, to the capital city of Santiago. With 9 million inhabitants, the city almost blows us away after having been in the deserted south for so long. From here, we follow the Pacific coast approx. 1,000 km north and drive through dry landscapes and dunes again. It’s incredible how diverse this continent is.

To get back to Argentina, we have to drive over a pass 4,726 m high. We have never been so high up with our Axor and we are glad that the engine starts up again immediately at the top of the pass and continues to run reliably to get us to the province of Catamarca.

We spend the winter there – and surf one or two dunes.

But now we are on our way south again. We'll tell you why in the next report.

4-Xtremes – The World Tour.

Andrea and Mike Kammermann have been on the road in the Expedition Axor since June 2020. The Swiss couple have visited much of Europe, from the northernmost point of Norway to the Canary Islands, and also made a detour to Tunisia. Distance covered on the road on the journey: 83,000 kilometres! Travelling to other destinations was not possible, mainly due to pandemic-related restrictions. Until now! Andrea and Mike are now discovering South America. Find out what happens next! This current tour is the second one that the Swiss couple have undertaken in their Axor. They travelled through more than 20 countries in 2018 and 2019, covering a good 47,000 kilometres.
